North Carolina Case - Wake County CPS

His daughter and he the victims of false allegations substantiated by Wake County Child Protective Services (herein CPS). In short, this guy was about to be remarried. His ex wife, a nurse, called the doctor's whom she worked for - Dr. Laura Todd from Cornerstone Pediatrics in Cary, NC. The mother state that that their daughter had a red labia. CPS asked if the doctor had examined that child. The doctor stated she had not. Ten days later and with no contact with the father, the daughter was brought into the pediatrician's office and Dr. Todd called Child Protective Services stating that the child did indeed have a red labia. (Those of us in the medical field see this DAILY). None the less, Wake County Child Protective Services got involved. The assigned social worker met with the accused and uncovered that the reporting parent had been sexually molested herself from ages three to 12 with no intervention from her parents. After a thorough evaluation of all parties, the case was marked unsubstantiated and closed.

A few months later, the child went to Leslie Doares, a marriage counselor out of Cary, NC. Ms. Doares served on the Board at Southern Regional Center in Fuquay-Varina. Call it coincidence if you care, but Dick Sears, the grandfather of the alleged 5 year old victim also served on the same board. On the first visit to Ms. Dares, the child stated, "I am supposed to tell you that my daddy touched me but it happened a long time ago." Ms. Dares contacted Child Protective Service at Southern Regional Center. Coincidence?

Child Protective Services stated that they were not going to re-investigate the case as it had already been looked in to. Mayor Dick Sears went down to the Southern Regional Center and demanded the case be investigated.

The case was then transferred to Raleigh to avoid further political contamination and abuse of powers.

The child went to Chapel Hill to and met with Jeanne Arnts, LCSW. Center for Child and Family Health. Duke University. During one of the recorded one of many taped interview sessions, Ms. Arnt's asked "Show me what your daddy did to you." (Those of us in the profession realize the protocol breach and ethical violation here). The interview and process was chocked full interviewing processes that great disturbed me.

In the end, it was decided that the case was substantiated as probable. When questioned. "Ms Arnts stated they had to "err on the side of caution." At what expense? At the the expense of keeping a child in a toxic living situation of coaching?

It took two years before the father was reunited with his daughter. They are no in the process of beginning a reunification strategy.

The decisions to file lawsuits for Abuse of Power, Medical Malpractice and civil damages is outstanding.
